This weekend gave me the chance to attend two special events. On Friday night Batavia hosted its second annual Art Walk. This afternoon, there was a benefit for We Grow Dreams at the Gardens at Ball in West Chicago.

The corner of Rt. 59 and North Avenue is seeing a lot of positive change. Once nearly abandoned after the departure of a chain grocery store, new development is booming, bringing in development useful to the residents of the surrounding areas. The corner’s newest businesses will include a car dealership, a Starbucks, and a grocery store. These businesses join the many that have been developed at the corner in recent years.

A new bus service, developed by a committee chaired by Mike Fortner, links Wheaton and Naperville rail stations to the College of DuPage campus. In District 95 this bus route provides service to downtown Wheaton, Wheaton College, Danada, and IIT Rice Campus. Fortner has been a strong advocate of increased public transportation using new models that bring service directly to those who most benefit by it.
