HB 3766 - Clarifying Unlawful Video Recording

Even the best legislation can sometimes lead to unintended consequences. One example is the unauthorized video recording law passed a few years ago. This statute made it unlawful to record someone's image in their residence without their consent. HB 3766 clears up some confusion in the meaning of residence when applied to apartments.

The Winfield Register is a new local paper. They've asked me to contribute occasional articles on the goings on in Springfield. For the May 16th edition I wrote about the issues and debate about the electric utilities since deregulation took effect this year.

I've Been Hacked

Some of you may have noticed that there was a strange image of an eye on this site on Friday and Saturday. Some hacker got into my site and planted the image there. It turns out this was a hack on the the whole server that hosts my site, and many other web sites were also affected. Everything has been restored, and the vulnerability should be closed as well. My thanks to Merle Burleigh for giving me the heads up on the hack so I could get it fixed,

House Nears Committee Deadline

HB 1391 & 1392 - Allow Counties to Collect Fees for Child Advocacy

In January I attended a breakfast with officials form Kane County to talk about issues they felt would be important for the state. One of those issues was a need to find funding sources for their Child Advocacy Center in Geneva. After the meeting I followed up with staff to get their ideas on the ways the county could fund the center. This resulted in a pair of bills HB1391 and HB1392.
